Action I: Mobilizing Shared Commitment
How do we use connection and urgency to recruit others effectively into our actions?
Description
This skill-building workshop teaches you the essential organizing skill of moving people to action through clear, explicit commitments. You'll learn that effective action does three things simultaneously: produces results toward your goals, strengthens your organization by attracting and engaging new people, and develops the leadership of individuals involved. Through the proven "5 C's" framework—Connect, Context, Commitment, Catapult, and Confirm—you'll practice making specific asks that respect others by being transparent about the work ahead while giving them meaningful opportunities to create the change they wish to see. You'll learn why vague requests fail and how to be crystal clear about date, time, place, and what you're asking someone to do, then how to listen carefully to distinguish between "yes," "maybe," and "no" responses. Through structured role-play practice in coaching groups of three, you'll develop confidence in asking peers and community members to join your action.
